2022 Cult Devotion Review

The 2022 Cult Devotion is a really good bike for $569. It comes with a full chromoly frame, forks, handlebars, double wall rims, and fully sealed bearings. The Devotion also includes two pegs. This allows you to practice those grinds as soon as you pull the devotion out of the box. This is Cult's highest end model and the most expensive, it weighs around 26 pounds.

You almost can't go wrong with this bike, but it may not be perfect for everyone. Later in the post, I'll describe who this bike is perfect for.

Frame Geometry

A: Top Tube Length: 21" – Learn what size is right for you here.

Check the size guide to see if it's right for you..

Getting a top tube that is taller than suggested will make the bike feel more controlled and less responsive

Getting a top tube size that is smaller than normal will make the bike feel a lot more snappy and responsive.

B: Chain Stay Length: 13.65”Learn About Chain Stays Here

This is a LONG chainstay.

A short chain stay makes the bike feel twitchy. Spins will be easy, but airing and jumping might feel hard to control.

A long chain stay will make the bike feel really controlled. Spins will feel sluggish, but manuals and air tricks will feel nice because it will be more stable.

C: Head Tube Angle: 75° – Learn About Head Tube Angles Here

Steep head tube angles make the bike “snappy” meaning more responsive to fast turns.

A less steep head tube gives you more control.

D: Seat Tube Angle: 71°

E: Bottom Bracket Height: 11.8″

F: Stand over height: ??

Cult doesn't tell us what size the standover is...

A low standover will make tailwhips easier, but barspins harder.

A tall standover gives you more to pinch and grab when doing barspins & t-bogs.

G: Rise: 9"

This is an average rise

Riding a tall rise, will give you more leverage on the bike. Making it easier to pull back and lift the front wheel up.

H: Width: 30"

Narrow bars make barspins easier.

Wide bars give you more control and stability when steering.

Dougsterbob Score

Now everything above the line is pretty basic info. I break down the specs, geometry and some highlights. But that doesn't really help you find the right bike. So I created the Dougsterbob Score.

What is it?

The Dougsterbob Score is taken from Doug Demaro's "Doug Score" (He already had the name so I had to get creative with mine haha) Anyway, this assigns a score to the bike based on 20 different aspects. This way you will know exactly what this bike is good for and how it holds up.

2022 Kink Launch Rankings

Category Points
Dougsterbob Score 5.25/10
Street Score 4/10
Park Score 1.67/10
Dirt Score 4.33/10
Quality Score 6.25/10

Dougsterbob Score

Dougsterbob Score: 5.25

The Cult Devotion scored a 5.25 in the dougsterbob section. It is a great bike with mid-level quality. For any rider looking for something pretty serious but not looking to spend a ton of money, this is a great choice.

Most people go with the devotion since it is the BEST quality Cult bike, and it is only $70 more than the Cult Control.

Is the Cult Devotion a good bike?

The Devotion is a great bike. Anytime a bike comes with full chromoly, sealed bearings, and pegs you know you’re getting a great bike. The devotion is pretty close to the $600 price point making it a little bit expensive but all in all it’s a great bike.

Street Score

Street Score: 4

The Cult Devotion scored a 4 in street. The Devotion is not super "street specific" like other bikes. However, because of the pegs it can become a street machine pretty easily.

The quality of the Devotion makes it pretty sturdy for holding up to big drops and big gaps.

Is the 2022 Devotion for street riding?

No, most "street-specific" bikes have a few added components that the devotion is missing. You're able to make upgrades to the Devotion but since it does not come with them, it is not street specific.

Park Score

Park Score: 1.67

The Devotion scored a 1.67. It scored this because of the interesting geometry and lack of park-specific parts.

One interesting thing about the devotion is that it does not have holes for a gyro. Because of the hourglass-shaped headtube, you can not put a gyro on it even if you wanted to. A lot of part riders like to ride a gyro so they can spin the bars 60000 times without the cable tangling.

Is the 2022 Cult Devotion good for riding skateparks?

No. If skatepark riding is your thing, the Devotion is a poor choice. I only say this because there are so many better skatepark-specific machines.

Dirt Score

Dirt Score: 4.33

The Devotion scored a 4.33 for dirt riding. This score comes mostly from the long and stable geometry. This geometry will allow you to go faster on jumps and pump tracks without feeling so unstable.

Most dirt riders look for a bike with geometry like the Devotion. The 13.65" chainstay will give you so much control.

Check out the WTP Revolver to see a dirt-specific bike. (Check it out here)

Is the Cult Devotion good for riding dirt?

The Cult Devotion is a decent choice for a mid-level dirt rider. It will feel nice and stable and hold up to some dirt jump crashes since the quality is so good.

Quality Score

Quality Score: 6.25

The Devotion scores a 6.25 in the Qaulity section. This is actually really good especially for a $569 bike. A bike with this score is best for mid-level riders since the quality can withstand pretty tough riding.

If your previous bike fell apart on you, chances are you need a bike with a little better quality. Thats why the devotion is a great bike to get as an upgrade.

Riding a high-quality bike is important to have fun and progress safely.

The Cult Devotion includes these high-quality parts that make up its 6.25 Quality Score

  • Full Chromoly Frame
  • Full Chromoly Forks
  • Full Chromoly Bars
  • 2x Double Wall Cult Match rims
  • Fully Sealed Bearings

Value

This bike has a Dougsterbob Value Factor of 11.93 which is very impressive. Only a few other bikes have scored higher. Getting a high qualituy bike is important, but what if the high quality bike is extremly over priced? Finding a high quality bike for a good price is not only important. It's crucial.

Should you get it?

If you are a mid-level rider, who needs a strong bike with stable geometry, this is a good choice for you. Especially because the Devotion is a fair price with good quality.. Make sure that the 21" toptube is right for you by checking out my size guide or by filling out a Free BMX Bike Recommendation.
